"The Other Black Woman" Panel Discussion

This discussion will explore the idea of "the other black woman," and how the panelists have created their work from, and for, this space. The panel will present a discussion that speaks to women of color who identify with their own "otherness" (including subculture fans, queer identified, etc.) and are interested in discussing personal experiences and best practices for creating work as black women who exist beyond the stereotypes within the black community. Topics will touch on the creative process, access, the need for spaces that speak directly to black women, and making our own lanes as independent artists. With Nia Johnson (LesB Inn), Andrea Boston (Oddflower), and Melissa Moore (Y-LLEAD).

Presented by Red Emma's Radical Bookfair Pavilion at the Baltimore Book Festival 2015.

Redefining Black Exhibit

View the Oddflower project on display as part of the "Redefining Black" Gallery Show presented by the 2015 Black Heritage Celebration at George Washington University in Washington, D.C.

"Redefining Black is a show born out of the 2015 Black Heritage Celebration, a movement that seeks to change the dynamic and image of a minority within the curricular aspect of the George Washington University, its respected community, and beyond. The show explores the complex issues surrounding the identity of Black Americans within predominantly Caucasian spaces. The works will hopefully challenge viewers to think critically about their perceived notions of Black culture and people."
